Hey. Just wondering lately... what's everybody working on? Anybody got any projects outside of class?

I'm rewriting a novel that I wrote and lost a couple of years ago. It's funny, I can only try to remember the exact words, and although I of course remember the basic plot and themes I feel as if my underlying intentions are now much more specific. This novel sometimes prevents me from writing shorter pieces, but lately I have been getting around to writing short stories and poems as well. People always write more when they go through dramatic or emotional periods in their life, so I figure during university is a great time for anyone who has any interest in writing to do as much as they can.

Wow. A novel. What's it about? And, yeah, I agree, uni's a great time to get working, and cos you're learning a lot of new things and meeting new people, but... the work... *groan*

I really don't want to tell too many people so I'm just going to tell you that it is a psychological thriller with political and philosophical overtones (hahah that doesn't really tell you anything, sorry). I don't like to talk too much about it, I feel that if I do that before it's published then it is less my story. I know this will sound possessive and paranoid, but right now it belongs to me, and I feel that if I let it out there before I let the ACTUAL novel out there, then (a) people won't get the full picture; and (b) the general idea is out there and so the novel won't then be quite as awe-striking. You know what I mean? And yes I agree the uni work is definitely a major barrier when it comes to getting around to doing writing. Especially when you're studying Law!!

Woah - Evil0live, how many novels have you written lately? Freak yourself, you big meany... The English Society is open to anyone with an interest in literature and writing - we're not an elitist group. Plus, you are aware of the concept of a Joint Honours Degree, right? That's where a student combines two subjects at university, like - oh I don't know - Law and English/Creative Writing? I don't know if that's the case here, but did it even occur to you? Damn your prejudices - apologise to the nice man immediately And for the record - I generally don't like sharing my plot ideas until I've finished writing either

o.k ignoring evil olive i'm working on uni stuff, but it's my 3rd year creative writing piece so i've got 4000 +20% words to play with and a good mark to get...not much time for other stuff (i've been playing poker instead ) it's a piece that juxtaposes four lives that cross peridoically with little interaction. it's main theme is that of the moment in a song when you feel elevated and unified with everyone and everything around you before it kicks back in to the final epic chorus. as such the piece is split into verses choruses bridges and a middle eight. that's hard to explain quickly so i'll post it when it's done. i have no illusions that i'm going to be published for quite a while. i'm hitting mid 70's, but they reckon you need 80 plus to have a stab at decent publictations. i think this is the best work i've done thus far though so we'll see. good luck palindrom with novel, but even more so with the publishing. first novels are notoriously hard to get into the public domain. crossing my fingers for you (but still hoping i get published first lol). laters x

I'm working on one too... it's been about a year now. (Feeling like member of Alcoholics Anonymous) . It's 125 thou at the moment, but I'm going thru and re-writing from the beginning. It's a happy little story about a psychiatric patient and his dr. V cheery.
