Monday, meeting 6pm, kicking off at 6.30, the first English Society Creative Writing Meet, upstairs at the Coopers Arms!
For anyone that doesn't know, the Coopers Arms is just at the foot of Penglais Hill.
The first half will be spent on writing, and the second half on reading. There'll be tasks and games and stuff for the first half, though people are welcome to just sit and work on stuff they brought with them, or other ideas they have. The second half will involve people reading out poems or stories (maximum 5 minutes long) to the group - you can have someone else read your writing if you prefer. Please bring some writing along! You can read stuff you wrote in the session or pre-prepared pieces. There'll be pads out for anonymous feedback, and a vote for the best piece at the end.
This meeting's free, but we do ask that you make an effort to buy drinks and snacks from the bar, as they're giving us the room for no charge.
We'll finish up about 9,
See you then!
(Please bring pens and paper if you have them - we'll supply some if people are short, but it would be preferable if you bring your own)
So that's Monday 13th February, upstairs at the Coopers Arms, 6pm.

One more thing - if you can bring a few copies of your piece to hand out, that'd be really handy! Don't worry if you can't, though.

Really enjoyed this evening, had great fun even if there was only a few of us. I thought that the writing exercise was really useful as it has shown me how simple it can be to formulate ideas to write short stories. Fingers crossed i shall have something to share next time!
Thankyou lots! Graham

I had a brilliant time! The exercise was great fun and it gave me a new twist on the game 'consequences' for the next time I play it. The poetry reading was also useful, even if I'm not great at constructive criticism. More people should definitely show up next time, because it really would be cool to have as wide a variety as we can get as far as writing styles go. I'm hoping to bring something in for the next session... so please let me not be the only one!

"Death! Death! Death!" cried the badger.
Yeah, it was an excellent night. People who missed out should hang their heads. Hang them I say!
(Sorry I didn't bring any stuff to look at after I said I would - I'd forgotten my dad was visiting for the weekend so didnae have the time to sort something.)

Hey - sorry I couldn't make it to Monday's writing session. Sound's like everyone had a brilliant time though and I'm reeeally looking forward to the next one. Promise I'll fetch something with me for people to look at and also lots and lots of notepaper (it's a compulsion - I just NEED notepaper with me all of the time.... and blue biros)
I'm also intrigued by the badger....
Later angels - xDx

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask - has anyone got an example of some of the stuff that came out of the writing games? (either ridiculous or truly brilliant). Still interested in what the badgers were about (or was that just a random and unrelated comment?) It reminds me of a story someone in my class wrote in the first year about a boy who kills his parents and feeds them to the badgers at the bottom of the garden in a rather disturbing and nochalant manner...

They'll be going up on the website as soon as I finish typing them up and send them to Graham! There's only two more stories to go but I had to leave them because my back was killing from sitting craned over my laptop. I'll get them to Graham tonight, hopefully. Heh... Film Noir Undead Badgers... 'twas a tad odd. I'm glad everyone had a good time It did go pretty well, thank you to everyone who turned up, and to Matt for bringing his poem along and helping organise stuff. The next meeting will be well advertised in advance, so hopefully we'll have more people next time, but it was fun with just us lot. Rose
